Students Start Pro-Pence 'I Like Mike' Campaign, See Instant Success

Share

Students at Taylor University started a campaign to support Vice President Mike Pence after a “vocal minority” of students and alumni opposed the school’s decision to invite Pence as a commencement speaker.

The anti-Pence students and alumni started a change.org petition urging the small Indiana university to rescind its invitation to the vice president.

The petition, which received national headlines, claims that Pence supports policies that “are not consistent with the Christian ethic of love we hold dear.”

Some triggered students reported that they were “physically shaking” and felt “personally attacked” by the university’s decision, according to Fox News.

But David Muselman, a freshman finance major, told Fox News that those who oppose Pence are in the minority at Taylor University.

“My whole motive behind selling these ‘I Like Mike’ T-shirts was to tell the world that a huge majority of campus was thrilled at Taylor’s decision,” Muselman said.

“The silent majority is in full-fledged support, while a very, very small minority is not supportive,” he added.

“After wearing my shirt, people from all over campus – students, faculty, maintenance employees, etc. – have all said they love it and are in support of Vice President Pence,” Muselman said. “Taylor likes Mike!”

Should more students across America stand up to the left?

Additionally, the university is standing firm on its decision to invite Pence as a commencement speaker.

“Since making the announcement of Vice President Mike Pence’s upcoming commencement speech, we have received feedback from people on either side of the issue,” Taylor University spokesman James Garringer said. “Taylor University is an intentional Christian community that strives to encourage positive, respectful and meaningful dialogue.”

Taylor University President Paul Lowell Haines described Pence as a “good friend to the university over many years” and “a Christian brother whose life and values have exemplified what we strive to instill in our graduates.”

It’s unusual to see a university that hasn’t been compromised by the left. Precedent shows that almost any other university would have instantly given in to the left’s demands, but Taylor University is courageously standing strong.

It’s also valiant for a group of students to openly show their support for the vice president. College students are all but expected to blindly follow the left and typically face backlash when they don’t.

America needs more courageous students like these to stand their ground.
