Trump Has Fun With Nobel Prize: Everyone Thinks I Deserve It, But I'd Never Say That
Throughout 2017, elected Democrats and their liberal media allies — as well as some concerned Republicans — fretted over the possibility of a deadly conflict erupting with North Korea because of President Donald Trump’s bellicose rhetoric toward that nation’s dictator, Kim Jong Un.
However, that narrative has shifted dramatically in 2018. Now, there is talk of North Korea denuclearizing and forging peace with South Korea after decades of tensions stemming from a stalemated war that began in the 1950s. It’s a development that has largely been attributed to Trump’s tough stance.
As a result, there have also been rumblings that — should he succeed in bringing about a peaceful solution to the problems on the Korean Peninsula — Trump would be in line to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump was asked about that possibility while reporters shouted questions at him in the White House on Wednesday, and his response drew laughs from everyone in the room.
“Do you deserve the Nobel Prize?” one reporter asked. With a broad grin, Trump replied, “Everyone thinks so, but I would never say that.”
Trump chuckled as the room erupted into laughter at his response.
“You know what I want to do? I want to get it finished. The prize I want is victory for the world, not for even here. I want victory for the world,” Trump stated more seriously.
“Because that’s what we’re talking about, so that’s the only prize I want,” he added.
The president was then asked about his upcoming summit with the North Korean leader — confirmed via a Thursday tweet to be scheduled for June 12 in Singapore — and if there was a possibility something could happen to “scuttle” that planned meeting.
“Everything can be scuttled,” Trump replied. “A lot of things can happen. A lot of good things can happen, a lot of bad things can happen.”
“But I believe we have, both sides want to negotiate a deal, and I think it’s going to be a very successful deal,” he continued. “I think we have a really good shot at making it successful, but lots of things can happen.”
“And, of course, you’ll be the first to know about it if it does,” he told the assembled reporters, “but I think we have a really good chance to make a great deal for the world.”
President Trump’s humble yet humorous response when asked if he deserved the Nobel Prize for the potential peace he’s poised to bring to the Korean Peninsula is just one example of why his supporters love him. And it’s not just his humorous humility that endears him to voters, but also the fact that his response will no doubt bug the liberal reporters who figured the whole world would be on fire by now.
Recall the utter seriousness with which the preemptive awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to former President Barack Obama was treated by both Obama and the media, even as he hadn’t done anything in particular to deserve it.
Furthermore, Obama’s policies after receiving that prize only brought more war, death and destruction to countless locations all around the globe.
Meanwhile, despite predictions from analysts and pundits that Trump would plunge the world into a global Armageddon, he stands on the precipice of bringing about actual peace and prosperity to a region of the world that has sorely needed it for some time.
It’s a reality the media recognizes but would rather not admit.
