Watch: Trump Ties Mother's Day and American History Together Beautifully

Share

Sunday was Mother’s Day, and as with most holidays, the president of the United States issued a statement to the American people in homage to the day’s special honorees.

President Donald Trump spoke about his own late mother and credited her with the success in life that he has experienced.

He also spoke glowingly of mothers across America throughout history, and equally credited them and their strength for the success this country has seen over time, according to Independent Journal Review.

“My fellow Americans, this Sunday is one of the most important days of the year: Mother’s Day,” the president said. “It’s a special opportunity to thank all of the mothers and grandmothers in our lives.”

“Since the earliest days of our Republic, America’s strength has come from the love and courage and devotion of our mothers,” Trump added.

“They helped us gain our independence. Through their grit, determination and incredible spirit, they pioneered the West and settled the frontier,” he said.

“During World War II, America’s mothers helped build the greatest arsenal for democracy,” Trump noted.

Following his homage to the contribution of mothers to American history, Trump shifted to his own personal history and spoke of his departed mother, Mary McLeod.

“My mother was a great person,” Trump said. “Her name was Mary McLeod. She came from Scotland and she met my father when she was very young. They were married for many, many years.”

Do you agree with Trump's Mother's Day message?

Trump highlighted the lessons learned from his mother.

“I learned so much from my mother. She was just incredible — warm, loving, really smart, could be tough if she had to be, but basically she was a really nice person,” the president continued. “So much of what I’ve done and so much of what I’ve become is because of my mother. I miss her a lot.”

Trump wrapped up his message with a message for all.

“Happy Mother’s Day and God bless America,” Trump said.

The president’s remarks about his own mother were quite touching, as was his obvious respect for all of the other mothers who have helped inspire and shape this country over the centuries.

Indeed, there are millions of mothers who gave birth to and raised all of the valiant soldiers and Marines who have sacrificed on behalf of this nation. In addition, many mothers have stepped up to single-handedly raise families and/or enter the workforce while their husbands were off fighting our nation’s battles.

Trump has an uncanny way of imbuing a pro-American sentiment into every message he delivers, and Mother’s Day was no different. Giving credit to our nation’s legion of loving and devoted mothers throughout history for America’s success is a message worthy of delivering.
