Watch a Literal River of Trash Flow in "Beautiful" Haiti

Share

Despite all the grief President Donald Trump recently received for allegedly referring to Haiti as a “s***hole” nation, the fact remains the island does suffer from some serious sanitation problems — primarily because it lacks a conventional trash disposal system.

As a result, Haiti is teeming with trash everywhere — on the streets, in rivers and even along the coast. According to Deutsche Welle, it’s so bad there that sadly many Haitians literally live “in (and around) garbage.”

And according to environmental activist Rosaly Byrd, there’s so much trash that it’s virtually impossible to go swimming anywhere in Haiti without encountering some.

“It is common to see dozens of plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other random trash on the beaches and right off the shore,” she wrote for the Huffington Post four years ago. “As an environmentally conscious person, living in Haiti and seeing this environmental disaster depresses me, infuriates me.”

I bet.

But in case you doubt her testimony, just view the video below, which shows a river in the capital city of Port-au-Prince littered with endless garbage.

To be clear, the video appeared on Facebook about a month ago, though it remains unclear when exactly it was filmed.

Regardless, welcome to Haiti, ladies and gentlemen, a country where, anywhere you look, you’ll see “(p)lastic and foam food containers … clogging canals, cluttering streets and choking ocean wildlife,” as reported by The Bulletin magazine in 2012.

Would you ever travel to Haiti?

I’d like to think the situation has improved since 2012, but it hasn’t, at least not according to Dan Andros, the managing editor of FaithWire, who visited Haiti late last year.

“I went there a few months back and the poverty is breathtaking, to say the least,” he wrote two weeks ago.

“Here’s some mind boggling footage I captured oceanside featuring a mountain of trash, wild pigs roaming about, and half-naked children playing & going to the bathroom wherever they please,” he continued.

That footage can be seen below:

“The first thing I noticed when arriving in country was the trash everywhere. Rivers of it — literally,” he added.

This is the real Haiti, and while it’s brimming with wonderful people — as Andros enthusiastically attested to in his piece for FaithWire — it’s also loaded with trash and, apparently, feces as well.

But judging by how liberals reacted to Trump’s alleged “s***hole” remark, it seems like they want to deny the truth about Haiti. They’d rather pretend the island nation is a “beautiful” utopia versus a Third World hellhole.

That’s unfortunate, because a utopia is by its very definition a perfect state that needs no change and improvement. And I’m sorry, liberals, but the Haiti I just saw in the videos does need change and improvement — lots of it, in fact.
