3-Time Pro Bowl Defender Allegedly Threatens To Shoot Up Hotel, Undergoing Evaluation
Police were called to a Minneapolis hotel Saturday after Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen allegedly made a remark about shooting someone in the hotel.
Officers were called to Hotel Ivy as a man was threatening to shoot someone if he wasn’t allowed in his room, ESPN reported, citing the police report.

The name of the individual was redacted, according to the report, but sources confirmed to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin that the person involved was Griffen.
Griffen was found to have no firearms on him. He was not arrested, but he was brought in for questioning and was later admitted to an area hospital for evaluation.
The three-time Pro Bowler had been staying at the hotel for the past week.

The incident report, according to ESPN, said hotel staff believed Griffen was “possibly under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.” The report also said that he caused a disturbance “each time he walks through the lobby,” ESPN reported.
“On Saturday, the situation escalated to a point where Griffen allegedly threatened to assault hotel staff,” ESPN reported.
Griffen did not play in the Vikings’ shocking 27-6 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
“He is having a personal matter and I’m going to leave it at that,” coach Mike Zimmer said after the game, explaining why Griffen was not there.
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said the team is aware of the matter.
“We are aware of the situation involving Everson Griffen and certainly concerned by what we have heard,” Spielman said in a statement. “We are currently focused on Everson’s well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family.”

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted that Griffen has been dealing with a “serious, personal health-related issue, per sources. The team and his agents are helping him.”
Griffen, 30, has spent all nine of the NFL seasons with the Vikings. He signed a four-year contract extension last year.
Griffen was arrested twice in the same week in January 2011, first for public intoxication and then for fleeing a traffic stop.
