Marshawn Lynch's High School Photo Stuns the Football World

Share

In hip-hop culture, there is a certain look associated with “the street,” and it’s a massive contrast from the look of someone in the corporate world.

Nowhere was that contrast more on display Monday night than, of all places, a football game.

If nobody told you that’s Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch as he looked in high school, and you say you would be able to guess that fact in a million years without being prompted, you’re either lying or you had your eyes surgically replaced with cameras equipped with facial recognition software the CIA would be proud to have in its arsenal.

Would you ever have guessed that high school picture was Marshawn Lynch?

The photo was shown during ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” broadcast of the Raiders-Rams game, and few could believe the smiling kid in the spectacles was the dreadlocked NFL star.

The contrast between “street” and “corporate” wasn’t lost on the folks at The Checkdown, who tweeted “real life vs. LinkedIn.”

The work theme continued throughout the Twitterverse.

Considering just how unassuming and almost Steve Urkel-like Lynch looked in high school, you can almost picture him being as soft-spoken in the halls as he is when he’s “just here so I don’t get fined” at the postgame press conference.

And with as close as Oakland is to Silicon Valley, why not throw a few tech jokes in there too?

But as Timeless Sports reminds us, although he may have been a clean-cut preppie style-wise, the intensity and the Beast Mode within were always part of Lynch’s football DNA.

As far as high school vs. adulthood contrasts go, this is one of the best ones we’ve ever seen, worthy of every “you won’t believe what [celebrity] looked like in their yearbook photo!”

Unfortunately for Lynch, the Raiders got the Skittles beat out of them, losing to the Rams 33-13.
