Pro-Trump UFC Champ Keeps Promise, Visits White House

Share

Colby “Chaos” Covington made no secret about his admiration for President Donald Trump and the current White House administration after he won the interim welterweight championship at UFC 225.

“I’m going to do what a real American should do. I’m bringing this belt to the White House and I’m putting it on Donald Trump’s desk,” Covington told Joe Rogan after the title win.

Covington’s comments came at a time when the NBA-champion Golden State Warriors and Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles were feuding with Trump over a potential White House visit.

The interim UFC champion elaborated on his disdain for the Warriors and Eagles in separate interviews.

“What a disgrace, the the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia Eagles are. They’re a complete joke, a bunch of losers,” Covington said.

His ire for some of the other professional athletes didn’t stop there.

“How dare you not kneel for the national anthem, how dare you not accept President Trump’s offer to the office?” Covington said. “There’s men and women losing their lives, sweating blood and tears … so you can eat off silver spoons and have your little Bentleys.”

And if there was any doubt about Covington’s authenticity, he essentially issued an open challenge to any athlete who disagreed with him to fight him.

Was Covington out of line to call out other athletes for not visiting the White House?

“These silver-spoon athletes they think they’re so tough. They act tough to Trump. Come act tough to me, I’m over at Coconut Creek (Florida) at America’s Top Team,” Covington said. “Come see me you little pencil-neck geek Kevin Durant, you pencil-neck little b—- Steph Curry.”

Covington also cited how excited he was to visit Trump.

“I’m very excited man, I’m addicted to winning just like Trump. I’m here to make UFC great again, he’s making America and the whole world great again, so I’m very happy to meet Donald Trump,” Covington said.

The meeting between Covington and Trump officially happened, with the president proudly brandishing the UFC championship belt over his shoulder.

“Promises made. Promises kept,” Covington wrote on Instagram. Love him or hate him, his meeting with Trump happened exactly like he said it would.

Covington wasn’t the only UFC luminary to visit Trump. UFC president Dana White has long been a Trump supporter, even speaking his praises at the 2016 Republican National Convention. He also took an opportunity to put a UFC championship belt on the president’s desk for a photo op.

According to Zidan, Trump helped the UFC out of “tough times.”

It’s little surprise then that both the Trump and UFC have a longstanding mutual love for each other. That’s in stark contrast to Trump and his ongoing feuds with the NFL and NBA.
