Woman's Hilarious Hack in Cotton Candy Eating Contest Knocks Viewers out of Their Seats
Ever spent much time on Facebook? If so, you’ve probably run across a free-to-play puzzle game called “Candy Crush Saga.”
Whatever you think of that particular pastime, one Chinese TV anchor has brought a whole new meaning to the phrase. And a short video clip of her straightforward, sassy approach has gone instantly viral.
According to various media outlets, the snippet shows a brief scene from a Chinese variety show known as “I’m the Winner.” In this case, the hilarious victory involved an epic eating contest.
You’ve probably witnessed plenty of these eating contests before. They used to be an entertaining staple of hometown summer fairs, and late-night TV.
Maybe you’ve watched enthusiastic contestants wolf down three dozen hot dogs, eight bowls of chili, or fourteen blueberry pies. These events are often a guilty pleasure: hysterically gross, yet helplessly fascinating.
In fact, there’s actually an organization that coordinates most professional eating competitions. Appropriately enough, it’s called Major League Eating — and its global gastrointestinal games feature everything from shrimp cocktail, to bratwurst, to sweet corn, to cheeseburgers.
But the Chinese video in question goes in a different direction entirely. For this challenge, the main course was a super-sized wad of cotton candy.
Technically, cotton candy consists of surprisingly simple ingredients. We’re talking spun sugar, a few drops of food coloring, and a whole lot of air.
But if you’ve ever tried consuming cotton candy, you realize the stuff is incredibly sticky. That’s why the strategy devised by 25-year-old anchor An-Qi is so stunningly brilliant.
The savvy competitor, who resides in Zhejiang, China, left her male opponent in the dust. She basically used all that air to her impressive advantage.
Don’t be fooled by An-Qi’s gracious demeanor, her dainty earrings, or her flouncy red dress. This woman is a fearsome warrior who figured out how to annihilate her foe in three seconds flat.
Basically, An-Qi ripped all the candy off its stick at once. Then she compressed it down and crammed it straight into her mouth.
She followed up that spectacular pro-level move with a winsome smile, and a little residual chewing. An-Qi’s poor opponent never stood a chance.
The footage first went viral on Weibo and later Twitter, where people can’t stop praising An-Qi’s calculated poise. The inspiring lesson is abundantly clear: Never, ever judge by appearances alone.
