Fact Check: Have Certain Verses Been Removed from Modern Bibles?

Have you ever heard someone who’s curious about Christianity say that verses have “been removed” from the Bible?

It’s a common enough complaint: Specifically, there are 17 fewer verses in modern translations than in older ones. So why?

For some atheists and those who doubt the Christian faith, the differences are sometimes used to point out the errancy of the Bible. However, quite the opposite is true; it shows that there’s not only remarkable transparency on the part of those who translate the Good Book, but that the manuscripts are almost entirely consistent throughout the ages — with a few minor differences.
