You know Democrats must be lying big time when even CNN calls them out on it.
That’s what happened when CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer interviewed Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Sunday after he attempted to blame the GOP for the shutdown of the government over the weekend, while portraying Democrats as victims.
Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, stated that Republicans are in “control” of the Senate, implying that made the GOP is responsible for the shutdown.
Blumenthal was probably counting on the normal liberal bias of a CNN interviewer to get away with the implication, but Blitzer quickly corrected him. In the United States Senate, a simple numerical majority doesn’t give a party complete control over a determined minority, and Blumenthal knows it.
“Well, let me interrupt politely,” Blitzer said.
“They’re not completely in control of the U.S. Senate as you know, they only have 51 votes, the Democrats are in the minority, but you need 60 votes in order to break a filibuster, so they’re not in control of the Senate when it comes to this issue,” he pointed out.
You can bet Blumenthal did not expect that.
Sen. Dick Durbin, the Illinois Democrat, found himself in a similar situation the same day when he claimed that the GOP had not reauthorized the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The CNN interviewer set him straight, saying the Republicans had voted in favor of CHIP, then made the same point Blitzer had about the votes needed in the Senate.
It makes you wonder what is going on over at CNN that hosts are calling out liberals who attempt to lie to the American people on live television. (Maybe it was the way White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney humiliated CNN blowhard James Acosta over the same issue on Friday.)
Whatever it is, it would be awesome if they kept it up.
Democrats have frequently used the talking point that Republicans are in control of the House, Senate, and White House, which makes the shutdown their fault.
However, as Blitzer explained, it’s not that simple.
Kudos to these CNN anchors for actually doing their jobs and setting the record straight instead of letting Democrats spread lies.
