CNN Won't Air This: African Pres Breaks Silence on Truth Behind "S***hole" Statement

Share

Is Donald Trump a horrible racist? If you ask the mainstream media, the answer is a resounding yes — CNN’s Don Lemon even said so on national television. He just forgot to check in with anyone outside of his echo chamber.

The comment that triggered the media’s hand-wringing outrage was that — brace yourself — some countries are more advanced than others.

President Trump allegedly used the rough but accurate word “s**thole” to describe places such as Haiti and parts of Africa, where crime and corruption is rampant.

While elitist talking heads at liberal networks were sanctimoniously lecturing Trump, however, the leader of an actual African nation had a very different reaction.

While speaking to the East African Legislative Assembly, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni stunned liberals by defending Trump’s supposedly insensitive remark.

“America has got one of the best presidents ever. I love Trump,” Museveni declared, according to The Washington Post.

“I love Trump because he talks to Africans frankly.”

“I don’t know if he’s misquoted or whatever, but when he speaks I like him because he speaks frankly,” the Ugandan leader continued.

Was it racist for President Trump to allegedly say "s**thole countries?"

That was the same general sentiment expressed by conservative pundits such as Tucker Carlson and Andrew Klavan, who pointed out that liberals were disingenuously smearing Trump for saying something everyone knows is true.

“It is the fault of the Africans that they are weak. They have this huge continent,” Museveni continued. “If you look at Africa, Africa is 12 times the size of India, in terms of land area, lots of resources, and the population is growing now. Why can’t we make Africa strong?”

Maybe President Museveni is just a terrible anti-black racist, too? Chris Cuomo could not be reached for comment.

It isn’t the first time the Ugandan president has admired Trump. “That’s why I love Trump. He’s told you he is not your uncle. This is good. For Africans who feel orphaned, sorry. Let’s mind our own affairs,” Museveni posted on Twitter back in April.

To be clear, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is hardly perfect as a leader. As with many officials on the troubled African continent, Museveni has faced criticism for his political ruthlessness and efforts to stay in power for decades.

Museveni is no saint, and it would be unfair to praise “speaking frankly” without also pointing out these shortcomings. However, the African leader’s comments completely dismantle the narrative of the American mainstream media — namely, that pointing out known problems makes someone a racist.

People who actually know places such as Africa, Haiti, and El Salvador understand that deep problems exist. There’s no way around the fact that not every place on earth is identical, and yes, some of them are indeed “s**tholes.”

Being honest about reality needs to be promoted, not attacked. It is impossible to face a problem while being in denial that it exists. Museveni, for all of his faults, seems to understand this… and to the chagrin of the media, so does Donald J. Trump.
