Dad Joins Flight Attendant Daughter on Every Flight So He Could Be with Her on Christmas
Most businesses and places of work are closed on Christmas day so that workers can be at home with their family. But there are still those who don’t get the day off, including law enforcement, nurses and flight attendants.
Pierce Vaughan, daughter of Kimberly and Hal Vaughan, had always spent Christmas with her parents. But this year was different.
A flight attendant, Pierce was scheduled to work for Delta on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Nevertheless, the Vaughans figured out a way their daughter could be with at least one parent during Christmas. It wouldn’t necessarily be easy, but it was possible — and that was enough for the Vaughans.
Because she was a flight attendant, Pierce is allowed to have a parent fly for free. Unfortunately, only one parent could come, so they decided Hal would go.
“I’d just never been without my parents on Christmas,” Pierce told KENS 5. “So my mom took one for the team and stayed home with all of the pets so he could take his first trip since the accident with me.”
When Pierce first started her job, her father experienced a horrible injury. He broke his neck and required a lot of therapy, so he hadn’t been able to fly with his daughter yet.
There was no guarantee that Hal would be able to get on all the flights she was scheduled to work. His boarding was based on there being an empty seat on those flights, and he had to wait each time to see if he’d be able to make the next flight.
Thankfully, there always was, and he was able to tag along on all her flights in a marathon Christmas journey.
One of the open seats just happened to be in first class, which is where he met a man named Mike Levy. Levy posted pictures of the Vaughans and their story to Facebook.
“I had the pleasure of sitting next to Hal on my flight back home,” Levy wrote on Christmas Eve. “His daughter Pierce was our flight attendant who had to work over Christmas ☹️.”
“Hal decided he would spend the holiday with her. So, he is flying on each of her flights today and tomorrow around the country to spend time with his daughter for Christmas. ?. What a fantastic father! Wish you both a very Merry Christmas!”
Pierce shared Levy’s post and tagged her mom in it so she would be sure to see it.
“Look ma we made it Kimberly Hal Vaughan ?,” she wrote. “Dad’s first trip using his benefits was a success! A special thanks to all of the patient, wonderful gate agents around the country and my perfect crew. He made it on every flight and even got first class RSW-DTW (Christmas miracle).”
