GOP Rep Gets the Last Laugh After Siblings Bash Him in Opponent's Campaign Ad

Politics can often bring out the worst in people.

While it’s not exactly a new phenomenon given the political climate in 2018, it’s still a little sad to see family members maligning each other over politics.

Case in point: Paul Gosar couldn’t have been too thrilled when six of his siblings came out with an advertisement urging Arizonans to vote against him.

Gosar, a staunch conservative and Republican congressman seeking re-election in Arizona, was hit with a scathing political ad from his opponent, Democrat David Brill.

The ad featured six of Gosar’s siblings, David, Tim, Jennifer, Gaston, Joan and Grace, hammering home the point that Gosar “is not working for you.”

Apparently, the bitter sibling rivalry began in earnest last year when Paul Gosar called the violent Charlottesville riots a leftist plot meant to undermine Trump. Subsequently, Paul Gosar also accused liberal billionaire George Soros of being a Nazi collaborator.

According to BBC News, those actions by Gosar spurred his siblings into action.

To give credit where it’s due, the ad is actually well done in the sense that Gosar’s siblings are presented as everyday Arizonans, until the big reveal at the end.

“Paul’s absolutely not working for his district,” David states in the video.

“If he actually cared about people in rural Arizona, I bet he’d be fighting for Social Security, for better access to health care,” Jennifer says in the ad.

“He is not listening to you, and he does not have your best interests at heart,” Tim adds.

Instead of worrying or lamenting over his siblings’ surprise attack, Paul Gosar seemed to take in stride and fired back a brutal shot.

“My siblings who chose to film ads against me are all liberal Democrats who hate President Trump,” Gosar said in a biting tweet. He went on to insult Hillary Clinton supporters, leftists and Stalin in one feel swoop.

“These disgruntled Hillary supporters are related by blood to me but like leftists everywhere, they put political ideology before family. Stalin would be proud,” Gosar concluded.

Originally from Wyoming, Paul Gosar is the oldest of 10 children, which includes seven Democrats, two Republicans and one independent, according to CNN.

“You can’t pick your family. We all have crazy aunts and relatives etc., and my family is no different. I hope they find peace in their hearts and let go all the hate,” Gosar told CNN in a statement.

Gosar also notified CNN of one somewhat important tidbit about his siblings — none of them actually live in Arizona.

That’s a bit of a glaring omission in the attack ad, don’t you think?

Despite the Twitter burn, Gosar had one last needling message for his siblings.

“To the six angry Democrat Gosars — see you at Mom and Dad’s house!”
