Grandmother of Duggar Family, from 'Counting On' Fame, Has Passed Away - Family Confirms

Share

The Duggar family, stars of the reality television show, “Counting On,” announced that a beloved family member passed away on June 9.

Over the years, we have watched many of the Duggar children grow up, get married and have children of their own.

It is a wonderful thing for children to grow up knowing their grandparents, and a special, rare gift for children to know a great-grandparent — a relationship that some of the Duggar great-grandchildren were old enough to have.

Sadly, Mary Duggar, the paternal grandmother to the Duggar family, passed away on the afternoon of June 9, leaving behind a legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Duggar family chose a photo featuring four generations of Duggar women, with Mary in the center holding one of her great-granddaughters, to make the sad announcement.

“We are so sad to share that Grandma Duggar (Mary) passed away Sunday afternoon, June 9th, 2019,” the family stated on Facebook. “Mary Lester Duggar grew up in Farmington, Arkansas and was married almost 50 years to J.L. (Jimmy Lee) Duggar who preceded her in death.”

The family went on to praise their grandmother’s life, saying she was committed to sharing her faith in God with others.

“Mary found great joy in sharing her love for Jesus and her own story of how at age 15 she asked Christ to forgive her for her sin. It was at that time she committed the rest of her life to live for Him, a commitment she kept with devotion,” the Facebook post continued.

“She loved to share with others how they too could be forgiven of their sins, live a fulfilling life as a Christian, and one day spend eternity in heaven.”

Many of Mary’s grandchildren took to social media to express their own words of sorrow and celebration for their grandmother’s life.

Jill Duggar Dillard said that her grandmother died “suddenly,” but the family knows she is now celebrating her eternal life in heaven.

“She was an amazing woman of God and such a great example to so many!” Duggar Dillard wrote on Instagram.

“Grandma, you are greatly missed by all who knew you! She was a feisty, incredible woman who always took the time to talk about Jesus with everyone she knew.”

Anna Duggar, married to Josh Duggar, wrote on Instagram that she would be grateful for prayers. “Lots of tears being shed here,” she stated.
