Cracker Barrel GM Delivers Food to Elderly Woman Craving Cake While in Hospital

Sometimes you get a craving you just can’t shake. You don’t even need to be pregnant to have an intense hunger for something super specific.

For Linda Cannon, it was cake. Not just any cake, but the famous coca-cola chocolate cake from Cracker Barrel.

“It was a craving somebody said something about cracker barrel on TV,” Cannon told KZTV. “Bought me some chocolate cake before and I had to have it.”

For most people, satisfying that foodie itch would be as simple as hopping in the car and booking it to the nearest Cracker Barrel, but the elderly Cannon was bedridden. She was in Christus Spohn hospital because of a heart condition, and she couldn’t come and go as she pleased.

But her family knew her heart’s desires and set out to fulfill them. Her granddaughter, Maci, was hours away, but she didn’t want her grandma to go hungry, so she tried to make a bet with her mother and Cannon’s daughter, Christie Lott.

“She heard because I told her my mother was craving Cracker Barrel coca cola cake,” Lott said. “She said ‘do you want to bet me $20 bucks I get her cake there delivered today’ and I said ‘I’m not going to bet you.’”

Fortunately, Maci managed to catch the ear of a caring manager. Lindol White, general manager of a nearby Cracker Barrel, not only took the call, but he delivered.

“A big part of it, too, is I could relate,” he explained. “My grandmother is up in Ohio and you’re far away and I could feel the agony of being that far away especially when a loved one is sick.”

Lott posted photos of the encounter on Facebook along with her side of the story.

“My stubborn yet amazing Mom found herself in an ambulance Saturday morning after she couldn’t get out of bed,” Christie Lott wrote on Feb. 18. “She cooperated with me, the EMT’s, Emergency Room Doctors and the 7th Floor Critical Care Unit Staff.

“As she has slowly started feeling better all she was craving food wise was Coca Cola Cake from Cracker Barrel. Well that’s all Maci Lee Ross needed to hear… 7 hours away she enticed the General Manager at the Cracker Barrel – Corpus Christi to deliver that cake.

“In true Maci fashion she got the job done! ???! Lindel the GM was so nice and actually over delivered… She got two pieces! ???❤️.”

Cannon was duly impressed, both by the young man who showed up with her cake and two pieces of the much-longed-for chocolate cake that she finally got to eat.

“And this really nice fellow came and brought me some cake I’ve been eating it for three days,” the grandmother said. “I think we broke all the rules but I love to break the rules.”

“I appreciate him so much going out of his way because he didn’t have to do that. Oh, he’s got to be a fairy godmother.”
