Teen Girl Out Walking Dog Hears Screams Coming from Trunk, Cops Find Tied Up Man Inside
A New Jersey teen was walking her dog when she heard a faint scratching sound coming from a car parked nearby. When she called out, she wasn’t expecting to hear a response, but she quickly contacted local authorities to free the man.
No, this isn’t a retelling of an opening scene of “CSI” or “Criminal Minds.” And authorities are searching for the suspects who committed this crime.
Kayla Rose, 17, of Irvington, New Jersey said she was terrified when she first heard the scratching noises on Thursday, March 8. It was around 7 a.m. and had otherwise been a quiet stroll with her dog.
Once she realized the noises were coming from a black Nissan Altima parked in the street, she called out, “Hello?”
She was startled when a muffled voice from inside the trunk responded, “Hello! Help me, help me, help me!”
Rose quickly went to a neighbor’s house to contact local authorities, according to WPIX.
Once the firefighters and police arrived, they freed the young man and sent him to the hospital for medical treatment.
According to the police, two men approached the victim the night before in Hillside, New Jersey.
They then allegedly flashed guns, took his car and forced him to withdraw money from several different ATMs.
The man’s wrists were tied together with a rope before the suspects threw him into the trunk of the Altima.
Thanks to Rose’s quick actions, the young man didn’t sustain any serious injuries. She told WPIX that he was just “scratched up on his forehead.”
Marie Banks, Rose’s mother, recognizes just how heroic her daughter’s actions were.
“If he was in there for quite a few hours, he could’ve suffered from hypothermia,” Banks said. “She saved a life.”
Authorities are keeping the victim’s identity secret during the investigation, but Union County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $10,000 for information that could help investigators find the suspects.
