There's 1 Food That 'Pioneer Woman' Ree Drummond Will Never Eat

Share

It’s not uncommon to have a food that you really dislike. You might even dislike a couple.

For some, it’s a texture issue. I have a co-worker that dislikes avocados for that reason. He’s wrong, but we respectfully disagree.

For others, it’s a taste issue. Cilantro has become a more popular flavor to dislike — many complain that it tastes like soap.

I personally hate both pancakes and waffles. Yes, I have eaten “good” ones with real maple syrup. I still just don’t like them. At least I’m consistent by disliking them both.

While it might be normal for us to have food preferences and dislikes, it’s hard to believe that a Food Network star like Ree Drummond would have a food that she refuses to touch.

“The Pioneer Woman” has been publicly honest about her abhorrence towards bananas. In an interview with Fox, she labeled them as the only ingredient she won’t eat.

In a blog post walking through a recipe for Bananas Foster, she hilariously expanded on her hate for the yellow fruit. “Those of you who’ve read my site for any length of time likely know that I hate, abhor, loathe, and recoil at the sight of bananas,” she wrote. “I am unabashedly anti-banana. I wear it like a badge. It’s part of my identity, along with being a redhead.”

Before this Bananas Foster recipe, there was only one recipe using them on her entire website: her mom’s Banana Bread. She later described the new recipe as “purely altruistic.”

While she admitted that she has accidentally eaten food with her least favorite ingredient in the past, she said that it is usually spat into a napkin promptly after. She sprinkled not-so-subtle stabs throughout the rest of the post.

After getting the perfect picture of the completed recipe, her sweet tooth took over and threw her into a moment of bravery. She blames it on the amount of sugar she had just consumed, but she decided to take a bite.

“I remembered all the nightmares I’d had about bananas. In one of them, a large banana is chasing me with a machete. I decided to take a bite anyway. I have no idea what got into me. It was this sudden urge to try something adventurous, something new,” she wrote.

She reported that she didn’t die and was surprised by how mild the flavor was. She even went as far to take a second bite.

To those who also dislike bananas, she said, “Don’t worry. I’m still in your camp. But I’m glad I decided to take those two bites. It was a character building exercise.”

Drummond owns a restaurant, bakery, general store, and deli with her husband called The Mercantile. The Oklahoma establishment features many delicious things, but, not surprisingly, none of the menu items include bananas.

Drummond is not the only Food Network star to have passionate feelings against a certain food. Ina Garten won’t touch cilantro, Giada De Laurentiis refuses to cook with green peppers, and Andrew Zimmern doesn’t like walnuts or oatmeal.

What about you? Do you have a particular food that you just can’t stand?
