Teen Girl Joins Grandpa for Heartfelt Duet of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'
The lilting, lamenting melody of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ has been performed in countless styles throughout the years, but perhaps never quite like this.
In May, a grandfather-granddaughter duo shared their version of the famous tune, filling hearts young and old with joy.
Meet Frank Nardone, who lives in Florida with his wife, Marie. He is 81.
His granddaughter, Brooke Falls, is 18. The promising young artist has been singing professionally for six years, and when you hear her voice, you’ll fall in love, too.
The precious age gap between Nardone and Falls set the scene for this heartfelt duet, as the two sat side-by-side outdoors.
In her hands, Falls held up a sign that read “18.” She passed it over to her grandpa, who turned the sign upside down to read “81.”
From there, Nardone began to strum his ukulele, which he started playing about a year and a half ago. He wore a black shirt and stylish hat, offering up a huge grin of his own before turning his focus to the strings.
Smiling ever so sweetly, Falls began to sing. Nardone kept the accompaniment simple, allowing his granddaughter’s voice to take center stage.
The video has gained popularity over the last few months, with people sharing praise and support for the cute duo.
“That young lady can sing!” wrote one YouTube viewer. “Grandpa Nardone must be pretty proud!”
Donna Dugan, Nardone’s daughter and Falls’ mother, was the woman behind the camera. She and Falls are from Philadelphia, and come to Florida a couple times a year to visit Nardone and his wife.
Dugan spoke about her daughter’s blossoming singing career with news staff from The Villages, Florida. She said Falls has already performed at 35 venues throughout the Philadelphia and east coast areas.
Falls maintains active social media profiles, sharing videos of various cover tunes on YouTube. She plans to continue to pursue a singing and performing career.
On June 8, Falls posted a photo of her high school graduation. Falls shared that she completed school online for various reasons, one reason being the flexible schedule, which allowed her to focus more on music.
“I’m extremely excited to see what the future has for me!” the singer wrote after her graduation ceremony. Good luck to you, Brooke Falls!
