Marie Claire Forced to Delete Photo Calling Out Meghan Markle for Having a Single Gray Hair

Share

When a story begins with the words “Important news,” you know it’s going to be good. But when the sentence that follows is “Meghan Markle, human, has a grey hair,” you begin to rethink your idea of the word “important.”

Popular women’s magazine Marie Claire is the latest publication facing an incredible amount of backlash regarding an April 5 tweet about Meghan Markle.

You already know the contents of this tweet: a very, very, close up picture of Markle’s head accompanied only by a link and a single, perhaps daring sentence that reads “Meghan Markle Has a Single Grey Hair.”

I know, groundbreaking information.

Within minutes of the tweet going out, the Twitter storm began. Users from far and wide revolted against the magazine’s tweet, demanding it be deleted and that whoever pitched the idea in the first place “never pitch another story again.”

The tweet was quickly deleted, but that didn’t stop those who saw it from commenting on the absurdity of it all.

However, while the initial tweet caused quite the stir, it might be argued that many missed the point of the story.

Yes, we can all agree that it is somewhat of a dull topic for the magazine to choose to write over 100 words about. But — gasp — there may just be a purpose.

With the royal wedding just weeks away, Meghan Markle inches closer and closer to becoming royalty.

Do you think Marie Claire's tweet was in poor taste?

While she has already achieved her own fame as a successful actress, the mere thought of her becoming a member of the British royal family has catapulted her to a level of fame only royalty could have — and that level is absolutely unattainable.

The article, while somewhat ridiculous upon first glance, brings Markle back down to a level many of us can relate to. Beneath the almost-royal status, the expensive clothing, the makeup, and yes, the hair dye, Meghan Markle is a human being.

Author Sally Holmes even laughs at the fact that she found a way to write a story about such a seemingly insignificant detail. But for many, that small detail is exactly what they need to see.

“Who knows if Meghan Markle is choosing to just own it, not waste the time and money on such frequent upkeep, or, just doesn’t notice because it’s ONE HAIR,” Holmes wrote. “But, either way, it’s nice to see she’s a regular person with a few stray grays, just like everyone else!”

Holmes is just pointing out the fact that even royals face the same exact things as the rest of us, no matter how flawless we may believe them to be.
