After Democrats like California Sen. Kamala Harris insisted that a radical plan like the Green New Deal is necessary to fight the “existential threat” of climate change, the legislation received absolutely no votes in the Senate, neither by Republican or Democratic senators.
Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro was quick to point out the irony in this fact, as not long ago Democrats who voted “present” said the Green New Deal was critical to saving the planet before it’s too late.
“I was reliably informed that the Green New Deal was both incredibly popular and deeply necessary to save the planet,” Shapiro tweeted. “Yet not a single Democrat voted for it. Clearly they do not care about the children. We’re all dead in 12 years, guys.”

The left desperately tried to spin the Green New Deal as “popular” and palatable even after it was widely mocked and its contents were deemed impossible.
Additionally, the Green New Deal FAQ that was released to accompany the bill’s announcement promised economic security for those unwilling to work and bizarrely attacked farting cows and air travel.
If these proposals were so popular, Democrats in the Senate wouldn’t have been too afraid to vote “yes” or “no” on the bill during Tuesday’s vote.
Instead, leftists were outraged that Republicans gave Democrats the opportunity to support the bill on record.
They should have been eager to vote for the bill if their doomsday predictions were right.
2020 hopeful Beto O’Rourke parroted these claims on his campaign trail.
But Democrats didn’t vote to save us from certain doom, which means Democratic senators either don’t care about the planet or they know Ocasio-Cortez’s plan is completely bonkers.
Ocasio-Cortez has a different theory. The freshman representative claimed Democrats didn’t vote for her Green New Deal “because I encouraged them to vote present.”
Because I encouraged them to vote present, along w/ others.
McConnell tried to rush the #GreenNewDeal straight to the floor without a hearing.
The real question we should be asking: Why does the Senate GOP refuse to hold any major hearings on climate change? https://t.co/de8oKOXeJf

Democrats can try to make up excuses, but the fact remains that senators would have voted for the Green New Deal if it was as popular and life-saving as the left claims.
