Today Show Host Jenna Bush Hager Announces Surprise Pregnancy She Hid for Nearly Two Trimesters

Share

While I was sad to see Kathie Lee Gifford bid farewell to her TODAY show family, I was also tickled pink to see former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager welcomed to the cast as Hoda Kotb’s newest co-host.

Congratulations are in order for the show’s newbie, too. She did a double reveal on TODAY after hiding a big secret for 5 and a half months.

Already the happy momma of two sweet little girls — Poppy and Mila — Hager was excited to announce that she and her husband Henry are expecting their third child.

“We weren’t really trying to get pregnant,” Hager admitted to Meredith Vieira, who is filling in for Kotb while she is on adoption maternity leave. “We had some fertility issues with Poppy. It’s a little bit of a shock, but it’s such great news.”

Hager explained she had already told Kotb about the pregnancy previously. Kotb, of course, was thrilled they’d be sharing the experience of motherhood together.

Hoda even called in to congratulate Hager on air. “I feel like this is your year for a million reasons,” Kotb said. “This is the year of Jenna Bush Hager.”

Jenna and Henry told their girls the big news by giving them reveal eggs in their Easter baskets. Because her girls can’t really be expected to keep the secret, Hager decided it was finally time to share her news with the world.

In addition to revealing her pregnancy, Hager also did a gender reveal on the show. A giant gift was opened on the set, and blue “It’s a Boy” balloons came flying out.

Hager went on to share that this baby boy will be the first male grandson on both sides of her family. How fun is that?

Jenna also shared her two daughters’ reactions to the news they’re having a baby brother join the family.

“What do you guys want the very most in the whole world?” the expectant mom asked from behind the camera. The girls’ sweet response is priceless!

Their little brother will no doubt be loved and doted on by his big sisters in the best way! I can’t wait to see what they think when he’s born.

Do you watch the TODAY show on NBC? Did you guess Jenna Bush Hager was pregnant or were you just as surprised as I was?
