Woman Nearly Homeless Wakes in Middle of Night Urged to Check $25K Lotto Ticket

Share

Winning the lottery is a dream come true for most people. With more money in the bank, the first thing people typically do is quit their jobs.

Then, they may start planning for the things they’ve always wished to have, like a new car or home. Getting to experience certain thrills like traveling may also be on their list of goals.

Finally, life doesn’t feel limited and constricted by financial worries and you’re on top of the world.

Hitting it big would make anyone feel on top of the world, but for someone who has been struggling to make it every day, it may feel more like a long-awaited breakthrough.

For the last year, life had been challenging for 50-year-old Shawna Donnelly. The woman was nearly homeless and practically out of luck.

Plus, she had started dedicating all her time to one important matter, which left her little time to do anything else.

“I’ve been taking care of my mom full-time, and it’s hard to make ends meet,” she said. A crucial matter, but obviously one that was all-consuming.

As anyone could imagine, it’s an awful feeling when your finances are dwindling, but a blessing was about to come Donnelly’s way. She decided to take a chance at the lottery.

She went to her local 7-Eleven in Clarkston, Michigan, and purchased a Lucky for Life ticket for the Jan. 15 drawing. Her chosen numbers were 11-15-32-33-40.

After retreating home, Donnelly said she fell asleep. It wasn’t until later on that night that she had the urge to look at her lotto ticket.

“I woke up in the middle of the night and had a feeling I should check my tickets,” she said.

“When I saw I matched five numbers, I must have refreshed my phone 100 times to make sure I really won!”

Donnelly went to claim her prize at the lottery headquarters. Instead of accepting the 20-year to life annuity payments of $25,000 a year, she chose the $390,000 lump sum.

Now, Donnelly is planning to get that new car and home she always wanted. She said, “Winning this prize couldn’t have come at a better time.”

We never know what the next day will hold. Life has its ups and downs, but in a blink of an eye, that can all change.

It has drastically changed for Donnelly, and her win is just a reminder that good things can happen to people when they least expect it.
