Former MSNBC Host Blasts Network, Says It Pushed 'Conspiracy Theories' for Ratings

The less-than-enlightening Wednesday testimony of former special counsel Robert Mueller before Congress had left-wing establishment media outlets scrambling to spin the day’s events into a damning depiction of President Donald Trump‘s innumerable attempts to obstruct justice during the Russia investigation.

Coincidentally, however, the day’s events also had members of said establishment media at one another’s throats.

On one hand, there were those struggling to gin up headlines peddling the narrative that Mueller had somehow proven Trump to be a liar and a criminal or quietly been signaling for Congress to investigate the matter further and pursue impeachment.

On the other, a number of the most prominent progressive members of the media admitted the testimony was an absolute “disaster for the Democrats” and the optics were abysmal.

Mueller’s inability to answer basic questions about his report, his doddering speech pattern and overall inability to make an impassioned case against Trump had destroyed any hope the Democrats had for impeaching the president.

One media talking head in particular, a former MSNBC host, went on the warpath, placing the blame for Mueller’s disastrously disappointing testimony on the media itself — particularly, her former employer.

Krystal Ball, co-host of The Hill’s “Rising,” said Thursday that the establishment media’s constant reliance on outlandish claims and conspiracy theories that Mueller would reveal Trump to be no less than a Russian asset and high criminal had actually weakened Mueller’s report and testimony.

These outlandish stories reported breathlessly for more than two years, Ball said, had given the American people — particularly leftists — unfairly high expectations for the Mueller report’s findings, making the left look rabid and all but ensuring that what little important information was revealed would be underwhelming at best.

Do you think MSNBC threw integrity to the wind in its coverage of the Mueller investigation?

Ball also dared say that hosts at MSNBC had drunk far “more deeply of the Russia conspiracy waters than others.”

She went on to argue that what could have been a damning report and testimony “does not feel like a damning set of facts when for months MSNBC built segment after segment, show after show, on building anticipation for a big reveal when we would learn the true depths of Trump’s fealty and direct conspiracy with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.”

Rachel Maddow, you got some explaining to do,” she added.

If any testimony from this week is damning, it would be Ball’s.

The Mueller comments can’t be taken as evidence that the Democrat Media Complex’s upper echelon has realized that endlessly misleading the American people with wild political speculation, grounded entirely outside the realm of reality, is doing more harm than good to the progressive cause.

But after Wednesday, it sure is starting to sound like some of these talking heads are waking up to the truth.

If so, the realization is being made far too late for it to do any good.

Unfortunately for truth, it is entirely likely that no apologies or serious corrections will ever be issued, and no earnest corrective measures will be taken by the publications and stations that peddled all of this garbage.

But there is a silver lining for conservatives. They can gleefully meditate on Ball’s most important question: “How much damage has MSNBC in particular done to the left?”

The answer is quite a lot.

And Americans will remember this.

They will think back to the round-the-clock deceit and gas-lighting as they step into the ballot box in November 2020, and the establishment media will once again be faced with the sobering fact that they created the monster they dreaded most: another Trump victory.

So long as all these wrongs and deceits empower the American conservative to vote and stay involved, the movement will have every tool at its disposal to uncover and reveal the hard truths going forward.
