Joe Biden's Niece Gets Pitiful Sentence After Stealing Over $100K in Fraud Scheme

Share

Former Vice President Joe Biden hasn’t been known to have a reputation for being honest and aboveboard.

His time as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee helped usher in the poisonous atmosphere Democrats have cultivated since around Supreme Court nominations by Republican presidents.

During his tenure as vice president, his name became a byword for men who got a little too close to the women and girls around them. (Granted, it was pre-#MeToo days, but since Biden is a Democrat, that probably wouldn’t have mattered much.)

Through it all, Biden seemed to be impervious to any consequences – he even got off easy on the plagiarism scandal that ended his 1988 bid for the Democrat presidential nomination. Another politician’s career might have been finished for getting caught stealing speeches from a lunatic British socialist.

Now, it looks like one of his family members has been lucky enough to inherit some of that knack for getting through life without facing the kind of consequences normal mortals do.

According to the New York Post, Biden’s niece, Caroline Biden, got a slap-on-the-wrist sentence of two years’ probation for running up more than $100,000 in expenses on a stolen credit card.

She also had to do a whole 10 days of community service at a children’s hospital, the Post reported, and had to repay the $110,000 bill.

How can a 31-year-old bear a punishment like that?

Here’s how the Conservative Tribune described Biden’s crimes in early July:

Do you think Caroline Biden got a sweetheart deal?

“And it’s not like this is a minor charge, in case the $100,000 price tag wasn’t a tipoff. Back in 2015, Caroline Biden had been given the victim’s credit card to make a $672 purchase. Instead, she used it to open a line of credit for herself at C.O. Bigelow Apothecary, a swanky health and beauty store in New York City.”

Now, it’s just possible that Caroline Biden just happened to hire the best defense attorney east of the Mississippi. And it’s just possible that New York courts, being in the financial capital of the world, don’t take credit card fraud very seriously.

But it’s much more likely that her powerful last name, in a deep blue, Democrat venue like New York City, had a lot to do with it.

Judging by a past arrest, Caroline Biden knew exactly how to throw her weight around. According to the Post, she was involved in a clash with a roommate in her $3,500-a-month New York apartment when she actually took a swing at some police officers who responded.

“I shouldn’t be handcuffed!” she told the cops, according to the Post. “You don’t know who you’re doing this to!”

Those words are the very essence of entitlement.

In court last week, she had a very different attitude on display.

“I not only acknowledge my conduct and take responsibility but deeply regret the harm caused,” she told the judge, the Post reported.

“I can assure you that I have made amends, full restitution, completed community service and that nothing like this will ever happen again,” she said.

Maybe it won’t. And every American of good will should hope it doesn’t, and hope that whatever was going on in this young woman’s life that made her go so wrong has been straightened out.

But let’s not pretend that coming from a wealthy, powerful, Democrat family didn’t smooth her path considerably in a city that worships wealth, power, and Democrats.

This wasn’t about Caroline Biden. It was about Joe Biden, and “honesty” isn’t exactly the guy’s middle name.
