I’m Still Standing, Candle In The Wind and Tiny Dancer — who could forget these songs and the amazing artist who sang them, Sir Elton John? Elton John fans around the globe are about to be disappointed.

After 50 years on stage, the 70-year old musician and entertainer is finally ready to call it quits and will no longer be touring.

Elton’s last performances involved finishing up a series of over 200 shows in Las Vegas called The Million Dollar Piano.

Elton began his music career back in 1967 and has sold more than 300 million records. He began touring in 1970.

Fame had not been easy for him. “Fame, which at first sight looks like a blessing, soon revealed itself as also a curse,” said Elton. He had admitted that, at times, he had been selfish and self-absorbed due to his success.

He had a few good reasons for leaving the concert stage. His reasons revolved around his health and his family.

Last year, Elton was sick with a bacterial infection that he picked up during a tour in South America. It left him in the hospital, but only after band members realized that something was wrong.

“I knew I was sick but I didn’t know I had such a dangerous thing inside of me until I had a scan, which was after nine shows, 24 flights and a summer ball,” said Elton.

He made a full recovery because of the quick thinking of the medical team at the hospital. “Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly,” read a statement released at the time of his hospitalization.

Elton also suffered a blow from the loss of his mother, Sheila Farebrother, last year. She suddenly passed away a week after he had saw her.

They had been in a feud since 2008, which, thankfully, had ended before her death. “Thank-you for everything. I will miss you so much.” said Elton upon her death.

His health was one issue that led to his decision to stop touring. At 70, Elton believed that a person is as young as they feel, but he admitted that some days he wasn’t feeling that good.

Elton’s family had also played a part in his decision. He would like to spend more time with his long-term partner and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah.

“I want to take him to school and I want to pick him up. I don’t want to miss that part of his childhood.” he said of his son Zachary.

Elton doesn’t look forward to retirement as he knows some people do. He said that he will keep working, but the touring is out. His life experiences seemed to have switched his focus to his family.

Now it looks like Sir Elton John will make a switch to one of the most important jobs there is. Being a dad.
