Actor Chris Pratt Helps 100-Year-Old WWII Vet Receive 50,000 Letters for His Birthday
When Isaac “Ike” Fabela turned 100 years old, he never expected the outpouring of heartwarming birthday wishes he would receive. As part of those well-wishes, Fabela also was given a very special surprise that one might say is a gift of a lifetime, according to Update America.
Fabela was born in 1918. He served in World War II from 1944 to 1946. As part of his military duties, he almost saw the events of D-Day.
He was on a boat bound for the beaches of Normandy. Fortunately, he was removed from the boat on June 6, 1944, just before the infamous battle on the Normandy shores.
With a full life behind him, the Montrose, Michigan, native told his family that for his 100th birthday he wanted some special. He hoped to receive 100 birthday cards.
To his disbelief, his wish would come true in the most spectacular way.
Word of Fabela’s wish was quickly spread through social media. The wish eventually went viral.
Sweetening the hopes of Fabela, actor Chris Pratt even got in on the fun.
Pratt told Hollywood and all his fans exactly what they needed to do, and before too long, birthday cards began pouring into Fabela’s mailbox.
Fabela soon found that his wish of 100 cards would easily be exceeded.
Much to his surprise, he received more than 50,000 cards as well as gifts to celebrate his 100th birthday.
However, there was one card that particularly sparked some emotion from Fabela.
The President of the United States of America sent Fabela a birthday card wishing him well and thanking him for his service.
The card read, “Happy Birthday and thank you for your service, Ike!”
To say that Fabela was emotional after reading the card is an understatement. He was moved to tears after reading it.
A man that fought so hard for America’s freedom found out the power of social media and the generosity of humanity around the world.
Celebrating his 100th birthday is a day that Fabela will never forget. The love he received from complete strangers is immeasurable in his eyes.
