Rita Wilson Celebrates 30th Wedding Anniversary with Husband Tom Hanks, Photo Says It All

Share

It was April 30, 1988, when a starry-eyed Rita Wilson and a baby-faced Tom Hanks married. Fast forward three decades, and the Hollywood couple is celebrating a milestone very few marriages attain: the 30-year wedding anniversary.

Wilson and Hanks are unabashedly in love with one another, constantly praising the other for their longstanding support and inspiration. Both 61, the couple agrees their love only continues to grow stronger over time.

Hanks remembers the first time he laid eyes on his future wife. It was 1972, and a teenage Wilson had landed a small role on “The Brady Bunch.”

Wilson played the part of enthusiastic cheerleader alongside character Marcia Brady.

“I was actually at a friend of mine’s house when it aired, and I remember thinking ‘that girl’s cute,’” Hanks said during a 2016 movie premiere in New York.

According to PEOPLE, the celebrity duo threw a big anniversary party with their close friends, including Oprah, Kurt Russell, and Goldie Hawn. Wilson took to social media, much like she did last year, to publicly acknowledge the love of her life.

“April 30, 1988 – April 30, 2018 — Thirty on Thirty Golden Anniversary,” the star captioned the then-and-now side-by-side photos. “Keeping love alive with @tomhanks,” she shared.

Hanks has shared somewhat of a recipe for marital success along the way. He recommends marrying someone you actually enjoy spending time with, and always telling each other the truth.

“I wish there was a secret, you know,” Hanks told PEOPLE in 2015. “We just like each other. You start there.”

“I still can’t believe my wife goes out with me,” he added, still in awe of his beloved wife. “If we were in high school and I was just funny, I’d never have the courage to talk to her.”

Of course, their lives aren’t without problems, just like us non-celebrity folks. But over the years, the couple has learned to love more and fight less, dealing with the bumps along the way with grace and understanding.

Life is a series of one hurdle after another, Hanks explained, but having someone by your side for the long haul makes overcoming the hurdles infinitely easier.

Even though they both work like crazy, they prioritize their marriage and are never apart for long.
