Pregnant Tony-Winning Actress Struck by Car, Age 5 Daughter and Age 1 Toddler Dead

We never know what a day will hold. We don’t know when we’ll say our final goodbyes or what day will be our last.

Tragedy can and does strike without warning, leaving friends of the victim reeling and trying to pick up the pieces of a life once lived.

On Monday in Brooklyn, New York, around lunch time, a driver plunged through a red light. She blew through populated crosswalks and then began to hit various cars parked along the way.

At just that moment, several people and their children had been crossing on the crosswalk, and the driver struck them. Before the driver stopped, a baby in a stroller had been dragged halfway down the street.

The baby, 1-year-old Joshua Lew, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another child, 5-year-old Abigail Blumenstein, was also killed in the tragic incident.

Several adults were also injured, including the mother of Abigail Blumenstein, actress Ruthie Ann Miles. Her role in “The King and I” in 2015 earned her a Tony Award.

She was out with a friend and her friend’s son when the car hit them and another unnamed gentleman. Miles and the other mother were also injured, with different sources claiming them to be in various states.

To add to the grief, Miles was also pregnant. A GoFundMe page set up for her by friend Jack Stephens said that she is currently in critical condition.

The original goal was $5,000 but her fans have shown a generous outpouring and within the first 10 hours the GoFundMe has raised more than $150,000.

There seems to be some discrepancy over the driver’s actions. A witness recalled that she saw the driver of the white Volvo approach the red light, look around, and then proceed.

The driver claims that she had a seizure and cannot remember what transpired.

“When they took her out, she was just standing there, like nothing,” said the witness, Jennifer Muñiz. “No emotion.”

“Not sad. Not crying. Not asking questions: ‘Is everybody all right?’ Not shaking. Nothing.”

It’s not the first time that intersection has seen trouble. It’s been a bad spot for years, seeing 10 accidents since 2014.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident, but have not released any more details. The driver has not been charged with any crime.

No news is available on the state of Miles’ unborn baby, but fans and friends are showing their support on various social media platforms, all sorry for her loss and hoping for a quick and complete recovery.
