Creative Dad Converts Age 7 Daughter's Wheelchair into Police Cruiser
A father from Thornton, Colorado, is doing all he can to help his epileptic daughter enjoy her childhood.
Like most kids her age, 7-year-old Haley Hauck loves to dress up and play pretend. Haley’s dress-up outfit of choice these days is a police officer, complete with a set of pretend handcuffs.
Haley is fascinated with police cruisers — the lights, the sirens and the friendly faces from the Thornton Police Department that she has met.
But unlike most 7-year-old girls, Haley has to deal with an epileptic disorder that can deplete her kidneys and eyes, Fox News reported.
Haley uses a wheelchair when her exhausted body needs a break, and her doting father found a way to make her wheelchair more of a game than a reminder of her sick body.
Haley’s father constructed a police cruiser shell around the wheelchair, complete with flashing red lights, headlights and a siren.
“I made it so that she can have fun,” her father told KDVR. “So that, when she gets in and out of a wheelchair — she has an idea of why she needs a wheelchair — but now it’s fun.”

On March 27, the Thornton Police Department posted a few photos of officer John Carter visiting the small law enforcer and giving her a chance to climb inside a real police cruiser.
“These pictures were too precious not to share!” the department wrote on Twitter.
“Officer John Carter and Haley sharing a common bond, ‘Police Work.’”
Haley’s parents are thrilled that the Thornton Police Department would take the time to show an interest in their daughter and help cultivate her love for protecting and serving others.
“Thanks for joining the force, it is an honor to work with you,” the department wrote.
