Creep Grabs Age 5 Girl, Takes off Running. Stranger Driving By Catches Him Just in Time

Each of us has probably experienced being at the right place at the right time, though few of us have probably been in a situation where that resulted in saving someone’s life.

A father from Kalamazoo, Michigan, definitely experienced one of those days Monday, Jan. 22.

Henry Scott told WWMT-TV the situation he witnessed around 2 p.m. that day was “nerve wrecking,” but somehow, he still managed to leap into action. And he made sure to capture it on live video.

As the story goes, a 5-year-old girl was purchasing something at a Marathon Gas Station. Her siblings were allegedly with her, but there was no report on their ages.

A man across the street spotted her as she made the transaction and ran over. That’s when the creep suddenly grabbed the girl and took off running.

Scott, who was driving by at that moment, noticed the man taking the child against her will. Fortunately, he was able to catch him just in time.

As he approached the struggle, he said the girl started fighting even harder. After a few kicks, she eventually escaped from her captor.

Another bystander came along to help Scott subdue the would-be kidnapper. During the entire encounter, Scott was still recording as a way to warn his local live followers about the man.

He was left shocked by the incident. “I didn’t know whether to beat the guy, ‘like what were you thinking,'” Scott said.

Scott also said the man seemed irritable and kept fumbling with his jacket — taking it off and putting it back on. Something was obviously off about the guy, and his earlier actions were evidence of that.

The unidentified 34-year-old perpetrator was soon booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail. On Wednesday, he will go before a judge on attempted kidnapping charges.

The President of the Douglas Neighborhood Association, Jim Pridgeon, did not approve of the little girl walking alone by herself, but added that people needed to pay attention to their surroundings.

While most people would probably agree with that sentiment, it’s also true that citizens need to keep their eyes open and watch out for themselves and those around them.

Everyone (except the perpetrator, of course) is glad things went the way they did. It was a very good thing the world has people like Scott who are always mindful of what’s going on around them.

Scott’s message is one of challenge and encouragement: “I just want everyone else to say ‘hey I can do something you don’t have to be like that’s none of my business I can’t do anything about that.”

If it wasn’t for his quick reaction, things could have gone awfully wrong for the little girl. He’s just hoping his live video will teach others to react the same and stand up when they see someone doing wrong.
