Girl w/ Down Syndrome Offered Job over Phone, Watch Her Reaction

Share

As parents, we worry about our children. Will they get through school unscathed? What will happen after college?

But for the parents of a special needs child, these concerns are intensified.

For one special young lady, her dreams were just beginning. In the hunt for that first job, she found kindness and acceptance.

For Julia, a Downs Syndrome young adult, it was finally time to look for a job. She applied at a local Chick-fil-A restaurant and waited patiently for a response.

Julia attended a typical high school where she was a cheerleader. She also was involved in leadership classes. Finding a job was just a normal next step.

Then shortly after she applied, Julia received a phone call. A woman on the other end of the phone called to offer Julia the job.

“I was just calling to offer you a position here,” said a woman on speaker phone. “Your pay rate would be $11.50 per hour, would you like to accept?”

Julia was overcome with emotion and gratitude. This amazing reaction was caught on video as her family watched on.

Her first response when asked if she would like to accept the position is, “I do.” Then she begins to break down as family members cheer.

“Oh my gosh,” said Julia to the woman on the other end of the phone. She kept her cool long enough to finish the conversation.

The phone call ended with information regarding orientation and her starting date but Julia couldn’t contain her happiness.

As she ended the conversation she made a bold statement, “That means I got the job!”

Julia seemed to be in disbelief at first. Then her family began to chant, “Chick-fil-a,” over and over again, sharing their joy for all to hear.

For Julia, her future looks bright. In a world that can be quick to discriminate, this time she was accepted. With such a supportive family, this job is just the beginning.
