Navy Corpsman Surprises Little Sister Just in Time To Help Her Get Ready for First School Dance

Share

The bonds of sisterhood are not easily broken. No matter the miles, when sisters are close, not even distance can keep them apart.

Thirteen-year-old Emma Hayes had a pretty big event coming up — her first ever formal dance was fast approaching.

All Emma wanted was for her older sister and Navy Corpsman, Kayla Hayes, to help her get ready for the occasion.

Unfortunately, the 18-year-old had been doing basic training in both Chicago and San Antonio and would not be back in North Carolina in time to assist with hair and makeup.

Or would she? “They’re very close,” the girls’ mom, Theresa Linden, told WCNC. “They’re two amazing girls that just love each other so much.”

Their love for one another other was made clear when Porter Ridge Middle school captured a surprise reunion between Emma and Kayla and posted it to YouTube.

“My sister and I have a special relationship,” Kayla told Liftable, a section of The Western Journal. “As most sisters do, it’s a love hate relationship, but she is most definitely my rock and my motivation. My best friend.”

Best friend, indeed. Watch Emma’s shock when her older sister sneaks up behind her in the school’s cafeteria. You might want to grab the tissues for this one!

“This was my sister’s first official formal and she had no idea I was coming home,” Kayla told Liftable. “She was sad I wouldn’t be able to do her hair or makeup for the big night and so I came home just in time to surprise her.”

Porter Ridge Middle School tweeted some sweet photos of the sisters following their reunion. No doubt those formal pictures were priceless!

“Being away from home and from family has helped me broaden my horizons and given me a different look on life, and starting adulthood,” Kayla told Liftable.

“It’s allowed me to grow and build myself up and become more independent and grown my bonds with family.”

The new basic training grad will have two weeks at home with her family before moving to Portsmouth, Virginia, where she will be stationed as a labor and delivery hospital corpsman.
