Stepdad Follows Hidden Notes to Courthouse. In Tears When He Realizes Why He's There
“Home is where the heart is,” right? Well, isn’t this true of family as well?
I’ll be honest, most of my biological family has passed on. But I have been blessed with some amazing people who consider me family, people who have never looked at me as if I am anything but blood.
I love hearing about heartwarming stories in relation to adoption. Particularly stories that have to do with a stepparent adopting a stepchild.
But we don’t use those terms in my house. My stepdad is just “Dad” — he’s never been anything else.
The same goes for the Thrasher family from Sullivan, Illinois. Aeralyn, now 9 years old, was 2 when her mom Jerica met Jacob Thrasher.
Now that Aeralyn was old enough to understand what it meant for Jacob to become her “Daddy,” she wanted to make the title official. Jacob already saw Aeralyn as his daughter, but she and her mother still wanted to take the extra step to make their family complete.
Soon a lawyer was contacted and the legalities were put in order. All that was left was for Jacob to agree.
But Aeralyn and her mother couldn’t let this be a normal trip to the courthouse. They concocted other plans to ensure adoption night would be a special memory.
With written clues that would lead Jacob on the scavenger hunt of a lifetime, the camera followed him all the way to the “center of town.” The ending that followed was priceless.
“Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone,” one of the clues began. “You didn’t give me life, life gave me you,” another read.
Didn’t your heart just melt? When Aeralyn started bawling at the end, I nearly lost it.
Their sweet embrace showed just how close they’ve grown since Jacob entered her life. “Daddy, will you adopt me?” she cried.
How could he have said anything other than, “Yes?” I’m so glad Aeralyn’s mom chose to record this — I’m sure they will cherish this video for years to come.
