Trump Digs Up Old Obama Quote To Mercilessly Troll Democrats

Share

If there are three words I love that some Republicans don’t, it’s “owning the libs.” Yes, it can be somewhat juvenile at times, but there’s nothing quite as rewarding on occasion as a good lib own.

That doesn’t mean you have to lower your intellectual or moral standards, mind you. It just means that sometimes, ownership of the left side of the aisle can be both entertaining and rewarding.

And if there are three words I love that some (well, most) Obamas don’t, they were these: “I totally agree!”

Those words came from President Donald Trump, himself a perfervid believer in owning the libs.

And what did it have to do with? Well, this tweet from former President Obama on the occasion of his 2011 State of the Union address.

“Now, I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration,” Obama said during the speech.

“And I am prepared to work with Republicans and Democrats to protect our borders, enforce our laws and address the millions of undocumented workers who are now living in the shadows.

Do you think we need to build the wall?

“I know that debate will be difficult,” he said. “I know it will take time. But tonight, let’s agree to make that effort. And let’s stop expelling talented, responsible young people who could be staffing our research labs or starting a new business, who could be further enriching this nation.”

So, wait — he agreed that our immigration laws should be merit-based? He was willing to work with Republicans? He was willing to call it “illegal immigration” and not “economic migration?”

Well, Trump had three words for that:

Unfortunately, they were indeed just words on the part of Obama.

He didn’t want to protect our borders and enforce our laws. When the effort took time, he decided to act without the GOP and make DACA and other attendant executive orders law with his pen and his phone. Much like other Democrats, he had no intention of pursuing merit-based immigration.

And when President Trump and the GOP were elected on a promise to do exactly those things, they called them bigots for even insinuating any of these things ought to be pursued.

Meanwhile, as the costs of illegal immigration — oh, sorry, “economic migration” — skyrocket, the Democrats are willing to shut down part of the government instead of budgeting $5 billion for a wall to stop it.

This is why owning the libs is so important. Or else, their agenda will own us.
