World's Hairiest Girl Shaves Her Face, Smiles in Photo After Finding Love for 1st Time
Sometimes I’m not sure that people in the age of social media understand the difference between “famous” and “infamous.” The Merriam-Webster blog points out that both mean that something is well known.
However, “famous typically carries the meaning of ‘widely known,’ and is often used in a positive manner. Infamous, on the other hand, has a negative set of meanings, such as ‘having a reputation of the worst kind’ or ‘causing or bringing infamy.’”
Many social-media stars seek attention of any stripe, even if it brings infamy. Still, one famous woman from Southeast Asia has managed to embrace her infamous reputation with grace and find love through it.
According to VT, Supatra ‘Natty’ Sasuphan hasn’t exactly enjoyed an easy life. The Bangkok, Thailand, native suffers from something called Ambras syndrome.
Most people don’t know what that disorder is. However, they can’t help but notice it when they look at Sasuphan.
The National Institutes of Health’s Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center describes Ambras syndrome as “a very rare type of hypertrichosis lanuginosa congenita, a congenital skin disease characterized by excessive hair growth on the entire body, with the exception of the palms, soles, and mucous membranes. Individuals with Ambras syndrome have excessive growth of vellus (soft, fine and short) hair, especially on the face, ears, and shoulders.”
Ordinary observers might describe it differently: People who suffer from it look like Chewbacca from the “Star Wars” films.
In fact, that’s exactly what bullies called her in school. However, the teasing didn’t keep her from becoming one of the most popular girls in her class.
What’s more, when Guinness World Records gave her an award for being the “world’s hairiest girl,” she accepted it with aplomb. “I’m very happy to be in the Guinness World Records!” she told the Daily Mail.
“A lot of people have to do a lot to get in. All I did was answer a few questions, and then they gave it to me.”
She also added, “I don’t feel any different to anyone else, and I’ve got lots of friends at school. … Being hairy makes me special.
“I’m very used to this condition.” However, she hadn’t grown so used to it that she wasn’t willing to change it.
See, Sasuphan found love in 2018. And when she found the man with whom she would share her days, she began to shave her face.
The Daily Mail reported that Sasuphan hasn’t publicly shared his name. However, the pair have married and seem lost in wedded bliss.
“You not just my first love,” Sasuphan wrote on social media. “You’re the love of my life.”
