Christian Singer Lauren Daigle Responds to Critics of Her 'Ellen Show' Performance

Share

Lauren Daigle has caught hearts and ears with her soulful music. With the September release of her new album, “Look Up Child,” she’s been in the public eye more than ever.

The more popular she becomes and the more airtime she gets, the more people will both wholeheartedly support and criticize her. The most recent hot topic revolves around her appearance on “The Ellen Show,” which many Christian fans viewed as a poor choice of venue.

Posts regarding her appearance on the show have garnered many negative comments, rebukes and warnings. Some commenters have even repurposed Bible verses to call her out.

“You must remember Jesus Christ was hated by humanity and betrayed by many Jesus Christ says Woe to you Lauren when men praise you she should of gave the Glory to God she should allow Jesus Christ to rule over her life all of you Idolize her more then Jesus Christ she will lead you towards the anti christ if continue to follow her music,” wrote one fan of run-on sentences.

Even listeners of “The Wally Show,” which featured an interview with Daigle after her “Ellen Show” appearance, had some negative things to say about giving her the time of day.

“Ellen brings absolutely no glory to God,” one disgruntled woman wrote in after hearing the episode. “I don’t see the significance to the kingdom of God by using her as any kind of example on your show. Consider this: she will most likely never discuss you and WAY-FM on her show, so don’t give her that much power.”

Daigle and Wally of “The Wally Show” both agreed that Ellen imitates Jesus more than many of the viewers who were upset about Daigle’s appearance on her show. The singer explained why she believed this to be true.

“What people don’t see is this is how she closes the show,” she explained on The Wally Show. “So there’s a live audience, right, in the room, and the show part — the filming part — is finished, but she is still in the room and approaches the audience and says, ‘The same joy that you have felt here today, the same acceptance of people and the kindness towards other people — the generosity towards other people that you have felt in this room, let that be the thing that you go out into the world with.’

Do you think it was good for Daigle to appear on "The Ellen Show?"

“And it was beautiful! I don’t have all the answers in life and I’m definitely not going to act like I do, but one thing that I know for sure is I can’t choose who I’m supposed to be kind to or who I’m supposed to show love to and who I’m not, because that’s the mission, right? Be who Christ was to everyone as well.

“I think the second we start drawing lines around which people are able to be approached and which aren’t, we’ve already completely missed the heart of God.”

Fortunately, many supporters have raised their voices and submitted their comments across social media to show solidarity and voice their approval of Daigle’s choice.

“Jesus ministers as he sees fit,” wrote one person in reply to a naysayer. “Not as you see fit.” Others chose to focus on the fact that Daigle is the first Christian artist that Ellen has invited on the show and that Daigle’s latest CD was one of the gifts to the audience, so perhaps someone who needs to hear the good news will find it.

Joanna Gaines has also affirmed Daigle’s decision on Twitter at the end of October. Her caption seems to suggest that she thinks Daigle’s taking steps in the right direction: “This girl. This music. Changin’ the world y’all.”

Despite the fact that Daigle has made many people unhappy, she also continues to make beautiful music that has hope, love and the Good News at its foundation.

She will be on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Nov. 7, and based on her Instagram posts, she is very much looking forward to it.

“SURPRISEEE!!!!” she posted on Halloween. “Personal dream ✅ So excited to announce that I will be on @jimmyfallon! I always said that if I ever make it on @fallontonight, I would run and slide on his desk. That would be my dream entrance. Who knows what could happen ??‍♀️ Tune in Wednesday 11/7.”
