MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” heaped praise on Democratic-Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wednesday, after the 28-year-old pulled an upset victory over incumbent Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley in their New York primary race Tuesday.

“So people want change,” host Joe Scarborough said. “They see what’s happening at the border. They see what’s happening in Puerto Rico. And they see this young woman and say, ‘I want her to go there and shake things up.’ And sometimes shocking things like this happen.”

Co-host Willie Geist chimed in the and said how great it was going to be to meet her in the studio, and recounted how hard she worked to get where she is.

“She’s going to be on our show a little bit later this morning. It would be great to meet her and talk through some of her positions,” Geist added.

“But she worked hard for this. She’s 28-years-old. When she was in college at Boston University, she worked in Ted Kennedy’s office up there. She worked on the Bernie Sanders campaign … She wants Medicare for all, she wants a federal jobs guarantee. We’ll ask her how to pay for some of those things.”

Geist also championed her “youth” and “enthusiasm.”

“Her energy, her enthusiasm, her youth … it was a smart campaign, it was a well-run campaign and as I said she worked for it. I think Joe Crowley who a lot of people praised last night as a very good man and good congressman — He may have taken this seat for granted,” Geist continued.

Are you worried about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's victory?

“The enthusiasm, the smarts, the youth, the energy of Alexandra Ocasio Cortez won out,” he concluded.
