God can work in mysterious ways and bring someone into our lives out of nowhere, someone who will change the way we look at the world. Couples always remember the day they first met, whether it’s love at first sight or a hidden love that they discover along the way.

Melissa Dohme and Cameron Hill will never forget the series of unfortunate events which introduced them for the first time. As Melissa was leaving high school and heading off to college, she decided to break things off with her boyfriend, who reacted by assaulting her and stabbing her 32 times!

Miraculously, Melissa was saved by first responders, including Cameron Hill. She lost practically all the blood in her body, leaving doctors amazed that she was able to survive.

It was a painful journey, but she was able to recover from her injuries and she even graduated from St. Petersburg College-Clearwater. Now she works as an advocate at Hands Across the Bay, working with and helping victims of domestic violence.

She swore that she would never date again until she met the first responder who saved her life. She was granted that chance several months after her attack and they started a relationship.

About four years after the incident, Cameron Hill had a big surprise planned for his lovely girlfriend. He picked out a ring and was all set to propose!

At a Tampa Bay baseball game, Melissa was asked to throw the ceremonial first pitch.

She suspected it was because of her inspirational recovery story when in reality it was set up by Cameron.

Cameron got down on one knee and you can probably guess that Melissa said yes!

It was a beautiful moment for the couple, witnessed by thousands of people in the stadium.

“Melissa, will you marry me?” Cameron said.

They met when Cameron saved her life, and today they’re set to be married. It’s a pretty magical moment.

Ryan Tofil's experience on The Western Journal goes back to 2014 when he was an intern for the non-profit Western Center for Journalism. In 2015, he became the director of Liftable.com, and soon its sister website ThoughtfulWomen.org. These websites eventually combined and became one of the most popular lifestyle websites in the world, at one point being ranked inside the top 200 websites in America by Alexa.com. Liftable.com lives on today as a section of The Western Journal. Since 2018, Ryan has been involved with PatriotDepot.com, the exclusive provider of The Western Journal merchandise and other essential patriotic products, moving to the site full-time in early 2019.

Outside of work, Ryan loves to play chess, sports, and video games; usually while smoking a cigar. He is a proud bird-owner and aquarium aficionado, and always jokes about needing concealed carry permits for his fists, despite only having been in one fight in his life and losing quite badly. His claim to fame is having possibly been the worst NCAA baseball player in the country, riding the bench for a DIII team that went 3-31. He loved every second of it.
