Lakers think Lonzo Ball camp is going to great lengths to sabotage trade - report

Share

From the time he was drafted last year, many considered Lonzo Ball the face of the Los Angeles Lakers.

In a strange way, one could argue that made his outspoken dad, LaVar, the mouth of the team.

Now there’s a new guy on the team who you may have heard of — LeBron James.

LaVar is letting everyone know how well LeBron and Lonzo will fit together.

“Lonzo ain’t going to play off the ball,” LaVar Ball said in a video posted by Overtime. “How’s LeBron going to play point? Lonzo will be pushing, and he’ll get it out of his hands too quick. Lonzo don’t do all that dribbling. All (James) got to do is run the lane and the pass (from Lonzo) is going to be right on the money.”

That’s if Lonzo is still on the team.

Shortly after agreeing to terms with James, LA signed Rajon Rondo, a veteran point guard who is a great passer and less than that as a shooter. Kind of like Lonzo.

That would seem to be two point guards for one spot.

Will Lonzo Ball be traded from the Lakers?

It’s no wonder that rumors have been flying about Ball getting traded.

Complicating any potential deal is the torn meniscus Ball is getting surgically repaired.

In an unexpected twist — like there’s ever any other kind involving the Ball family — ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Lakers believe someone in Lonzo’s camp might have leaked word of his surgery to suppress his trade value.

“That knee injury, I think there was a belief around the Lakers is that it was within his world that that got leaked out there to keep him from getting traded,” Wojnarowski said on a recent episode of his “Vertical” podcast. “He doesn’t want to be traded from LA. It wasn’t the Lakers who wanted information out on that knee injury.

“There were a lot of teams who were checking on possible deals with the Lakers. They wanted to know. There were a lot of questions about that knee.”

Of course, if Lonzo was traded, that would destroy LaVar’s guarantee of at least two championships for James, Lonzo and his other two sons, LiAngelo and LaMelo.

“LeBron got a four-year deal, right? I hope he gets four [championships] in a row,” LaVar said. “If not, I guarantee two when all my boys on the Lakers with him. Game over.”

There is no proof of who leaked Lonzo’s surgery to the media, but who could it possibly be?
