He Posts Pic with Fiancée's Ex-Husband, Shares Truth About Being a Family After Divorce

Share

A soon-to-be father from Texas shared a now-viral post about what it’s like to co-parent a child alongside her biological parents who are divorced.

This is the story of a little girl named Willow and the parents who chose to put their daughter’s needs above their own after divorce.

Willow’s mother, Sarah, is engaged to Dylan Lenox. Willow’s biological father, David Lewis, is still very much present in Willow’s life.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts to parent lovingly in spite of past hurts, Willow has three parents who adore her.

She does not have to live with the tension, animosity, or feelings of divided loyalty that many children of divorce have to process.

On the night of the daddy-daughter dance, Willow posed alongside her biological father and her soon-to-be stepfather.

She wore a fancy dress, a tiara on top of her golden curls, and a fur wrap to keep her warm on a cold night.

As Lenox and Lewis posed alongside Willow, Lenox was overwhelmed with love for everyone in his family — his fiancee’s ex-husband included.

“We have molded ourselves into one unique family, [if] only for the sake of our children to know the power of love,” Lenox wrote on Facebook.

“Not only did I gain a daughter, I gained a brother and a best friend.”

Lenox credited Willow’s mother with being the architect of the loving family culture they all enjoy — her warm heart and grace set the thermostat for how their family would interact with one another.

“When we care more about our children (on both sides of the party) than the way society has taught us to be towards (ex’s/baby mommas/daddy’s) then walls will fall,” Lenox said.

“Life will be free of hatred and remorse, and our children will conquer the foolish ‘norms’ that media has shoved in our faces.”

Willow’s family want their daughter to feel like she has one family who loves one another — not two separate families who are constantly at odds.

“He (Lewis) stays at our home when he visits, because family is always welcome,” Lenox said. “He is not an outsider, he is and will always be apart of my life for the simple fact that we share the same daughter!”

Lenox’s post has gone viral, with people from around the country praising the family and feeling inspired to structure their blended families in a similar manner.
