Well, this is disappointing.

What should be the culmination of a hotly-contested, sometimes controversial and exciting college football season seems like it’ll turn into another pulpit for political posturing.

Although, when news first broke that President Donald Trump would be attending the College Football Playoff National Championship game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs, perhaps this should’ve been expected.

The NAACP is asking fans to bring anti-Trump signs to the game, per the Associated Press.

The NAACP is also asking fans to wear white and bring white towels to wave and simulate a “blizzard.”

The white shirts and towels are meant to be a repudiation of Trump’s use of the term “snowflakes” as an insult.

It’s not just the NAACP, however.

A group that goes by Refuse Fascism ATL is planning a massive kneeldown outside of CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta prior to the game, in support of the NFL players who knelt during to protest during the national anthem.

Trump made headlines in September when he condemned all NFL players who knelt during the national anthem, singling out free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick specifically.

In response, more than 100 NFL players and coaches knelt for the national anthem that weekend in a direct response to Trump’s comments.

Atlanta police have been making preparations for Trump’s arrival in Atlanta.

Local law enforcement have said they will set aside specific areas for protests, and that they would not interfere with those protests.

Trump could face opposition from more than just the fans in attendance, however.

For the first time in the College Football Playoffs, there will be a halftime performance that doesn’t involve school bands.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar will be the halftime show for the national championship game, and he hasn’t been particularly secretive with his disdain for Trump.

One of his songs, “Heart Part 4,” takes pretty clear aim at the president.

Midway through that song, Lamar says, “Donald Trump is a chump/ Know how we feel punk/ Tell ’em that God comin’/ And Russia need a replay button/ Y’all up to something.”

As for the game itself, the Crimson Tide are slight favorites over the Bulldogs going into Monday night’s primetime matchup.
