Braves pitcher gets mocked by his own wife after bizarre injury

Share

The true love between a husband and wife can take many forms.

Sometimes it’s romantic. Other times it can be silly.

Or, in the case of Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon McCarthy, true love takes the form of his wife poking fun at his strange injury on a massive social media platform.

McCarthy’s rough day began during Wednesday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

To make things worse for McCarthy, there was no epic play or majestic dive for a baseball. No, his injury was of the non-contact, “I’m getting old” variety.

During a routine cover of first base after the Nationals’ Brian Goodwin hit a ground ball, the 34-year-old McCarthy caught the baseball in a routine move. Then came the pain.

All speculation about a potential dislocated shoulder was put to rest when the Braves athletic trainer popped McCarthy’s shoulder back into place on the field.

As anyone who has had the unpleasant sensation of having something popped back into its socket can attest, it hurts.

Fans on social media were both impressed and a little grossed out by McCarthy’s toughness as the entire situation played out on the broadcast.

The injury ended McCarthy’s day on the mound.

“It’s a very uncomfortable, very weird feeling,” McCarthy told reporters after the game.

It only got a little weirder and a little more uncomfortable when McCarthy’s wife, Amanda, chimed in with a refrain too many husbands are all too familiar with.

There was no official word on whether Brandon McCarthy did the dishes Wednesday night.

McCarthy has officially been ruled day-to-day with a left shoulder subluxation.
