Watch Moment 5-Year-Old Boy Celebrates No Longer Needing Chemo After 406 Days of Treatment

Chemotherapy, while in many cases effective, can also be a horribly grueling process. According to Mayo Clinic, the side effects vary and range from being more prone to infections, hair loss and fatigue.

This treatment certainly takes its toll on an adult body. But for a child to have to go through such an aggressive therapy? That’s something no parent cares to see.

Still, many parents do. Day in and day out they sit by their child’s side and hold their hand while their bodies undergo the treatment.

This is essentially how the Bushmans spent the past 425 days of their 5-year-old son Slater’s life. Diagnosed with Stage 4 High-Risk Neuroblastoma when he was only 4, this little guy has braved so much in such a short time.

“In April, 2018, we, along with his 6-year old brother, have moved to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, leaving behind our home in Florida, family and friends, as we get our little boy the treatment he needs,” his Facebook page reads.

Since then, Slater has undergone surgery and chemotherapy, along with bone marrow and stem cell transplants. He’s also been treated with radiation and immunotherapy.

The road has been long, and the pain of watching their son be so sick was heartbreaking for the family. But they stuck together through it all and prayed for a miracle.

Now that miracle has happened. After over a year in the hospital, Slater finally gets to go home! His family shared a heartwarming video to Our Boys Life on Facebook to celebrate.

“I am still crying, we all are,” the caption begins. “After 406 days here at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 425 days of hospital in total.. our prayers have been answered!!!”

Watch as the doctor and hospital staff commemorate the momentous occasion with a song and confetti! What a way to send this young man away in style and high spirits!

“[I]t’s a miracle, a gift from God and our guardian angels up above (my mommy foremost!!) and all of YOUR prayers and support,” the post reads.
