Ex-NBA All-Star hit with restraining order after allegedly trying to send revenge porn to woman's son
Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was hit with a restraining order after a woman told authorities he was threatening to send lewd picture of her to her son, according to TMZ Sports.
The woman reportedly had been involved in an on-and-off relationship with Arenas, though she recently tried to end it permanently.
“Gilbert told me he was watching me at [my] son’s school and that he had just saw him go into class,” she said in court documents obtained by TMZ.
“He said he was waiting to get my son’s cell phone number from his son so that he could send my child naked photos of me and video of Gilbert and I having sex and video of me naked,” the woman said.
One of the alleged text messages from Arenas read, “Wait til u son see ur naked pictures. Imma start f—ing with your life. He has a phone right?”
A judge temporarily granted the woman her request that Arenas stay at least 100 yards away from her and her son until the next court date. The judge also ordered Arenas to stop trying to contact the woman and her son, as well as not to send any pictures or videos.
In an alternate universe, former Washington Wizards All-Star Gilbert Arenas could’ve been one of the most inspiring sports movies of all time.
Despite a productive college career at the University of Arizona, Arenas slipped to the second round of the 2001 NBA draft, where he was taken by the Golden State Warriors. He chose to wear the No. 0 on his jersey because many NBA pundits predicted that that’s how many minutes he would play as a rookie.
After toiling away in relative obscurity, Arenas was given a shot to be the featured star when he signed with the Washington Wizards in 2003.
He evolved into one of the most fearsome scorers in the NBA, notching three straight All-Star appearances between 2005 and 2007 as well as earning All-NBA second- and third-team honors.
If Arenas’ career had simply ended there, it could’ve been quite the tale. An unheralded NBA prospect whom very few gave a chance had become an All-Star, one of the best players in the NBA, and was spearheading playoff teams that were going toe-to-toe with LeBron James.
Sadly, Arenas’ career continued from there, and things have only gone downhill.
On his 28th birthday, the NBA suspended Arenas indefinitely after he and former teammate Javaris Crittenton both reportedly had unloaded firearms in the locker room after a fight over gambling debts went too far. That was a direct violation of NBA rules as well as D.C. ordinances.
Arenas was never the same after returning, and he bounced around the league for a bit as an ineffective and inefficient scorer.
Had Arenas’ saga ended there, it would have been a ignominious end to his career but nothing that would have irreparably tarnished his legacy.
But if these latest allegations turn out to have even an ounce of truth to them, Arenas has effectively ruined any semblance of a legacy that he could’ve had.
